Santo Domingo.- While Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro remains partially closed from July 16 to 20 between the stations José Francisco Peña Gómez and Mamá Tingó, and then between Mamá Tingó and Hermanas Mirabal, some motorcyclists have expressed satisfaction with this measure, considering it an opportunity for additional work.

During a tour conducted by De Último Minuto, workers of two-wheeled vehicles stated that they have had an increase in customers during these days, despite the traffic chaos and the difficulties faced by Metro users when using the alternative service of free OMSA buses.

"Today is slow, but it's been pretty good... we're ready... We're going to drink Piña this weekend," celebrated Michael, one of the motorcyclists who has stationed himself outside the Hermanas Mirabal station.

Another one who expressed himself in that same tone was the young Ronny, who expressed his desire for the closure of several Metro stops to be extended "to achieve what one wants".

However, not all motorcyclists are happy, others are aware of the problems this generates. Such is the case of Eduardo Estevez, who described the authorities' handling as total chaos.

It is recalled that the Office for the Reordering of Transportation (OPRET) reported that the temporary suspension of service at five stations on Line 1, Mamá Tingó, Gregorio Urbano Gilbert, José Francisco Peña Gómez, Gregorio Luperón and Hermanas Mirabal, aims to carry out modernization work, including changes to the signaling system and the integration of six-car trains, which will come into operation in August.

As a contingency measure, OMSA has arranged free buses between the intervened stations, operating from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
