Minister of Sports coordinates with the García Saleta Foundation and Organizing Committee for the sustainability of the Olympic Center

Santo Domingo. – The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, held a meeting with José P. Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Games (JCC), and Juan Antonio García Smester, president of the Juan Ulises García Saleta Foundation (Wiche), to coordinate joint actions to guarantee the implementation of comprehensive policies aimed at the sustainability of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

Minister Cruz emphasized the importance of sports facilities functioning as sustainable spaces where high-performance sports, recreation, environmental preservation, and urban aesthetics converge. He highlighted that President Luis Abinader has placed sports as a social priority to promote youth and healthy recreation in the country.

For his part, García Smester thanked the minister for his willingness and reiterated the commitment of the Wiche García Saleta Foundation to collaborate in the management and operation of the Olympic Center, a legacy of his father and the heritage of all Dominicans. In addition, he submitted a management plan proposal that will be taken into account for future actions.

Journalist José P. Monegro highlighted that the meeting is positive and coincides with the vision that the Santo Domingo 2026 Games should be held in harmony with environmental conservation. He also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Housing, Carlos Bonilla, in the rehabilitation work of the Olympic Center and the Parque del Este, both key spaces for the event.

Preparations for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games continue with a view to receiving more than 6,000 athletes who will compete in 42 sports and 56 modalities, in what is expected to be the largest and most participatory edition in the history of this regional sporting event.
