Alexander Ogando qualifies for the 200 meters final at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025

Tokyo, Japan.– Dominican sprinter Alexander Ogando secured his spot in the 200-meter dash final of the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships this Thursday, following a brilliant performance in the semifinals.

Ogando stopped the stopwatch at 19.98 seconds, taking second place in his heat, only surpassed by the American Kenneth Bednarek, who won with 19.88. Both athletes thus secured their qualification for the grand final to be held this Friday.

The third place in the series went to Zimbabwean Makanakaishe Charamba, with a time of 20.03, insufficient to advance through direct positions.

A firm step towards the final

The Dominican Republic athlete had already shown his potential in the qualifying round, where he dominated his heat with authority by recording 20.10 seconds, securing his place in the semi-finals directly. With his ranking, Ogando is positioned among the best in the world in the distance, and keeps alive the Dominican aspirations of adding a new medal in the championship.
