Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry provisionally seized the apartment of José Ángel Gómez Canaán, known as Jochy Gómez, located in the Torre Logrobal in the National District, as part of the judicial process against him for alleged acts of corruption and fraud against the State. The measure, of a preventive nature, seeks to prevent the accused from carrying out economic transactions with the property while investigations continue into his alleged link to irregularities committed during his management at the National Institute of Transit and Terrestrial Transportation (Intrant). Gómez's lawyer, Félix Portes Balcácer, called the action illegal, alleging that it was executed outside the deadline granted to the Public Ministry to present the concluding act of the case. He also explained that a provisional seizure constitutes a precautionary measure for the purpose of confiscation, which must be ratified by a judge during the trial on the merits.

"For the property to be seized, it must be proven that it was acquired with illicit money. If that is not proven, the judge will order its return," Balcácer specified.

He added that, although Gómez cannot sell, exchange, or make any transaction with the property, he can continue to live in it while it remains judicially frozen. Judge Patricia Padilla, of the Second Instruction Court of the National District, had set a deadline of October 8th for the Public Prosecutor's Office to conclude the investigation. The Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca) accuses Gómez Canaán, owner of the company Aurix S.A.S., of being the main economic beneficiary of the alleged fraudulent awarding of millionaire contracts granted by Intrant to companies that, according to the authorities, lacked the required technical capacity.
