Man sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Third Collegiate Court of Santo Domingo West sentenced a man processed by the Public Ministry to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a girl since she was 10 years old, in an event that occurred in the municipality of Los Alcarrizos. The sentence against José Amauris Fermín Rodríguez was imposed by the court presided over by Judge Juan Pablo Ortiz Peguero and composed of magistrates Nelcy Ortega and Sandra Josefina Cruz.

In the trial, litigating prosecutors Vilma Méndez and Joel Pinales indicated that the accused had sexual relations with the girl for three years. The investigating body detailed that the defendant was arrested in 2019, as he kept the victim silent for almost four years, under the threat that he was going to kill all the members of her family. The investigation led by prosecutor Nancy Abreu, director of the Comprehensive Care Unit for Victims of Gender Violence, Domestic Violence and Sexual Offenses, revealed that the accused also used another minor to have sexual encounters with the girl. The conduct of Fermín Rodríguez, who must serve prison time in the Najayo Men's Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), in San Cristóbal, was classified as a violation of article 331 of the Dominican Penal Code and a violation of articles 12 and 396, letter B and C, of Law 136-03, which creates the Code for the Protection System and the Fundamental Rights of Children and Adolescents.
