This accident happens two days after the collision between two trains in Cordoba, in southern Spain, for reasons that are still unknown and that caused the death of more than 40 people.

In statements to the media, the head of intervention of the Generalitat Fire Department, Claudi Gallardo, explained that the containment wall has given way and collapsed around 9:00 PM (8:00 PM GMT), possibly due to the rainfall in recent days. The wall has fallen on the first carriage of the commuter train, which has been deformed as a result of the impact and in which the majority of the affected passengers were traveling. In the crash, the train driver has died and 37 passengers have had to be attended to by emergency medical teams, four of whom have been evacuated in serious condition to health centers. The Emergency Medical System (SEM) has deployed 20 ambulances to the area, which have evacuated the injured to the Moisès Broggi, Bellvitge and Vilafranca hospitals. The train, from the R4 Cercanías line, had departed from Sant Vicenç de Calders (Barcelona) towards Barcelona. The Bombers de la Generalitat, who have mobilized 75 personnel and 35 units, have already evacuated all the passengers from the train and have had to extricate a person who had been trapped inside the affected carriage.
