COE places Puerto Plata on red alert and maintains 22 demarcations on yellow alert due to flooding

Santo Domingo. – The Emergency Operations Center (COE) indicated this Monday that it maintains one province on red alert, 21 provinces and the National District on yellow alert, while five provinces remain on green alert, due to the incidence of a trough that maintains unstable atmospheric conditions over a large part of the national territory. Puerto Plata province is under red alert. The provinces of Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, Santiago, La Vega, Monte Cristi, Samaná, La Altagracia, Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo, Santiago Rodríguez, San Pedro de Macorís, Hermanas Mirabal, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte (especially Bajo Yuna), San José de Ocoa, La Romana, El Seibo, Espaillat, Valverde, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor and San Cristóbal are under yellow alert. While in green alert are Bahoruco, San Juan, Elías Piña, Dajabón and Independencia. The measure is based on the bulletins from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) and the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), which establish that the country continues under an environment conducive to the occurrence of rainfall, which increases the saturation of the soils in the areas under alert.

Authorities warned that favorable conditions persist for flash urban and rural floods, river, stream, and ravine rises, as well as possible landslides in vulnerable areas.
