La Romana. – A 10-year-old girl was injured on Tuesday night while sleeping in her room, after a shooting broke out in the vicinity of her home, located in the Villa Puerto Rico sector, of the municipality of Villa Hermosa.
The minor's mother, Ruth Esther, reported to this media outlet that her daughter "is alive by a miracle", since the shots went through a wall and hit the girl while she was sleeping next to her little sisters.
"My daughter was lying down, sleeping, when the shots came in through the back of the house and one hit her. Thank God she's alive," she said, visibly affected.

The minor was quickly attended to by a unit of the 9-1-1 National Emergency System, which transferred her to the municipal hospital of Villa Hermosa, where she is receiving medical attention. So far, police authorities have launched investigations to find those responsible for the shooting. Neighbors in the area expressed concern about the increase in violent incidents in the area and demanded more police patrols.
