Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Republic’s Meteorology Institute (INDOMET) forecast that the effects of a trough will produce some showers, especially in locations of La Altagracia, La Romana and San Pedro de Macorís, as a result of the wind’s drag from the east/southeast.
Also, during the afternoon, the incidence of this upper-level trough will add to the daytime heating and the interaction of the wind with the orography to cause showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts, especially towards El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, San José de Ocoa, Monseñor Nouel, Pedernales, Independencia, San Juan, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón and Puerto Plata, being moderate to strong over the north of Azua, La Vega, Santiago and Elías Piña, which will gradually decrease at nightfall, while the rest of the country will remain with a sky of few clouds and slightly grayish due to slight concentration of Saharan dust.
For tomorrow, Saturday, humidity values over the Dominican territory will increase. This, combined with the proximity of a trough at various levels of the troposphere and local effects, will favor the occurrence of showers, from moderate to heavy, thunderstorms and wind gusts during the afternoon hours towards El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, the northern part of Santo Domingo, San José de Ocoa, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, the north of Azua, Santiago, Elías Piña, Pedernales, Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Puerto Plata, among others nearby. These precipitations will extend until the first night hours.
Cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico:
A tropical wave located near the west coast of Africa is being monitored, producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Over the weekend and early next week, environmental conditions could favor a gradual development of this system. In the next 48 hours, it has a very low probability of reaching the tropical cyclone category, however, in the next 7 days, a 40%. Due to its geographical position, we are strictly monitoring it and recommend paying attention to our next bulletins.
The temperature will remain very high, due to the time of year (summer) and the warm and humid wind from the east/southeast. It is important that the population continues to hydrate adequately with liquids, (preferably water), wear light-colored clothing, seek cool and ventilated places, avoid periods of greatest sun exposure without proper sun protection during the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In addition, keep in mind that children and the elderly are more susceptible to suffering the effects of these high temperatures.

On Sunday, the approach of a tropical wave, the trough at various levels of the troposphere and local effects will again produce moderate to heavy showers locally, thunderstorms and wind gusts in the afternoon, concentrated mostly over provinces of the northwest, north and the Central Mountain Range, being isolated towards some of the southeast and the border area.
