Abinader announces integration of 200 megawatts to the electrical system after national blackout

SANTO DOMINGO. – President Luis Abinader stated this Monday that the Government has implemented "appropriate and due changes" in the electricity sector after the recent national blackout, and assured that the system already has 200 additional megawatts in the process of integration. During La Semanal, the president was questioned about the movements made in the Dominican Electric Transmission Company (ETED) after the failure that affected the entire country.

"We have made changes, appropriate and due changes, and we continue to move forward with the plans in the electricity sector. It is good to report that we already had in the planning that by May we would have 130 additional megawatts that are already online," he explained. He also indicated that 70 more megawatts, which are currently in the testing phase, will be added in the coming days. "I think that this week the entry of 70 more megas is consolidated... that's 200 megas that are added," added the president. Abinader reiterated that the Government continues to implement measures to reinforce the stability and reliability of the national electricity system, especially after the events that caused the widespread blackout.
