Abinader comments on incident with congresswoman Fiordaliza: "They are distasteful things that should not happen"

Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader referred to the altercation that occurred last Saturday between congresswoman Fiordaliza Estévez and members of the Presidential Security Specialized Corps (Cusep) during the inauguration of the bridge over the Bajabonico River, in Altamira, Puerto Plata.

In statements offered in LA Semanal, Abinader expressed that he was unaware of the case, while specifying that he found out via the media.

“I found out on television, I didn't see the altercation, they are distasteful things that shouldn't happen and that's why we make a special protocol every time and we make announcements”, he expressed. The head of state emphasized that, despite the nature of the incident, it was an isolated event within the framework of an intense work agenda. “You know how many activities I did on Saturday, eight activities, and the next day I did six more activities, and during the whole week I do activities. That level of incident is minimal because these things always happen. Even though it's minimal, we have to prevent them from happening,” added Abinader. The altercation occurred when the congresswoman tried to access a restricted area during the ribbon-cutting, claiming her status as a legislator. According to her version, a Cusep agent physically assaulted her, which led to a scuffle and the subsequent dissemination of videos on social media.
