SANTO DOMINGO.– President Luis Abinader avoided commenting on whether the case of alleged irregularities in the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa) could become the biggest corruption scandal in the country. The president insisted that it will be the Public Ministry that determines the real scope of the investigations.
“We are going to wait for the Public Ministry to act. We are going to give it complete freedom, as in other cases, and any opinion is not correct. It has to be their opinion. They have freedom to act,” responded Abinader during his weekly meeting with the press. The document was filed by the Superintendence of Health and Occupational Risks (Sisalril) and by the current authorities of the entity before the prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso. According to official information, the report reveals "serious irregularities," including billing for services not provided, authorized procedures that were never carried out, and weaknesses in internal controls. These complaints have prompted the opening of an investigative process in the prosecuting body. Abinader stressed that his government will maintain the policy of granting full independence to the Public Ministry so that it can investigate without political pressure or interference.Abinader guarantees full freedom of the Public Ministry in SeNaSa investigation
