San Cristóbal. – The President Luis Abinader led this Thursday the presentation of the first armored military vehicle assembled in the Dominican Republic, a milestone driven by the Dominican Military Industry (IMIDOM) as part of the strengthening of national security and the modernization of the Armed Forces.
During the event, the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre (ERD), officially presented the armored vehicle called “FURIA” (Unified Armed Immediate Response Force), corresponding to the VBD-1 model – Dominican Armored Vehicle, designed to respond to security and defense operations in complex scenarios. The “FURIA” was exhibited as a robust and high-capacity unit, equipped with tactical technology for immediate response operations. According to the details provided, this vehicle has a capacity for 11 soldiers and has level 3 armor, with high-strength ballistic steel and multi-layer ballistic glass, capable of withstanding ammunition up to 7.62 mm caliber.
Features of "FURIA"
Among its technical features, it also includes runflat tires, which allow you to continue moving even after impacts or total loss of pressure; a 360-degree rotating turret for weaponry, perimeter surveillance cameras, robotic headlights and support systems such as GPS and air conditioning, elements that increase the mobility and protection of the crew.You may be interested in:Abinader receives first Dominican electronic passport and starts a new era of document security
The authorities explained that vehicles of this type can reach an approximate cost of US$400,000 on the international market, however, local assembly would reduce the cost by around 50%, which represents a significant saving for the Dominican State. It was also reported that the Dominican Military Industry will continue to expand the production line with new models, including the VBD-2 (capacity for 9 soldiers) and the VBD-3 (capacity for 22 soldiers), as part of a plan to expand tactical and operational capabilities.
