Criticize the persecution of colleagues by "opportunists" in power
Santo Domingo.– The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, expressed his disagreement with the dismissals of leaders and grassroots militants of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) in the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII), after the appointment of Pedro Urrutia Sangiovanni as the new general director of the institution.
During his statements, Pacheco made it clear that he supports the changes promoted by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and positively valued the government's relaunch; however, he stated that he cannot understand or support that, in the name of those transformations, colleagues from the party who contributed to the construction of the political project currently in power are affected. "I understand that the government is being relaunched, especially on the date it has done so, I applaud it. Now, what I will not understand is that in the name of those changes, comrades from the base of the party are persecuted to satisfy the egos of officials who are ambitious because they are in all governments and make themselves indispensable, and then they come to act against those who helped build that government," the legislator stated. You can read: DN Mayor's Office highlights security guarantees implemented for Plastics for Toys 2026
Pacheco maintained that many of the affected militants are duly prepared, with academic and technical training, and questioned that they are displaced without valuing their professional capacity or their political commitment. In his opinion, these actions hit those who have historically defended the party in the most difficult moments. He also warned that he will not remain silent in the face of what he considers an injustice, even if his stance may have political consequences. "I support this government more than anyone, but I cannot remain silent. I told the president and I reiterate: I do not understand it and I will not understand it," he affirmed. The President of the Chamber of Deputies reiterated his strong protest regarding the situation and called for reflection on the treatment received by the mid-level and grassroots cadres of the PRM within the public administration, considering them fundamental pillars for the stability and sustainability of the governmental project.Following these statements in the middle of the session held this Friday, after a call to President Abinader, he stated that if this action puts his current position at risk, so be it.
"And if that costs me my job, so be it, because I am not going to remain silent in the face of that situation," he indicated.
