ESPAILLAT. – The Director General of Operations of the Presidency, Aníbal Díaz Belliard, made an extensive tour of the communities impacted by the heavy rains and the overflow of the Joba River, in the municipality of Gaspar Hernández, as well as by the increase of the Yásica River, in Sabaneta de Yásica.

Among the sectors impacted in Gaspar Hernández are the Raúl Lantigua neighborhood (Cuevas de los Leones), the center of the municipality, the municipal bridge, Independencia street, Villa Hermosa, Campo Verde, El Caimán and the sports area, as well as the community of Veragua, specifically in the Ginebra batey. Significant damage to homes and community structures was reported in these areas. In the case of Sabaneta de Yásica, the river overflow practically affected the entire community, causing losses in hundreds of homes and direct impacts on the education, sports, livestock, religious congregations, and small, medium, and large businesses in the area. The authorities reiterated their commitment to follow up on the needs identified and coordinate timely solutions with the Presidency of the Dominican Republic and other state agencies, with the aim of mitigating the social and economic impact caused by the rains and ensuring the recovery of the affected communities.
