Army detains Haitian with a homemade shotgun in Elías Piña

Elías Piña.- During patrol work on the border, members of the Dominican Republic Army detained a Haitian national who was illegally entering the country through an unauthorized crossing, near border pyramid number 185. The detention occurred when a patrol comprised of Intelligence Department agents and uniformed military personnel intercepted the individual, known as JEQUEFI, who was not carrying identification documents at the time of the arrest.

During the search, a homemade shotgun-type weapon with a cartridge was seized from him. According to information provided by residents of the area, the detainee was dedicated to assaulting and stripping undocumented Haitian immigrants who try to cross into Dominican territory of their belongings. The detainee and the seized weapon were transferred to the Fortaleza La Estrelleta of the ERD, for the corresponding legal process.
