Punta Cana. – The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed this Friday a collaboration agreement with the aim of promoting initiatives that make tourism a more inclusive, innovative and sustainable sector.
Angie Lendor, vice president of Asonahores, highlighted that the entity's vision is that "tourism is for everyone". She explained that currently five out of ten Dominicans live off this industry, but the goal is that the entire population can benefit directly or indirectly from the sector.
For her part, Ana María Díaz, UNDP Resident Representative in the country, highlighted the importance of Dominican tourism as a driver of employment and wealth generation. She indicated that the United Nations agency will provide experience and projects to support Asonahores' strategic priorities, with an emphasis on the inclusion of people with disabilities, the participation of women throughout the value chain, and innovation.
