Authorities find charred human remains: presumed to be of a woman missing in San Cristóbal

San Cristóbal.- Burned human remains were found this Thursday in the residence of Lisset Melenciano Tejada, reported missing on October 5th. The finding occurred during a joint operation by the National Police, through the Regional Sub-Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM), and the Public Ministry, at the residence of Melenciano, located in the Kilómetro 3½ sector, head municipality of San Cristóbal. During the technical inspection, the agents detected an area of disturbed earth in front of the house. Upon excavating, they found a hole partially covered with branches and traces of diesel, where bone fragments and charred remains with characteristics compatible with human tissue were found.

The collected evidence was packaged, labeled, and collected in accordance with chain of custody protocols, and sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for scientific and anthropological analysis, with the purpose of confirming the victim’s identity and determining the causes and circumstances of the event. The National Police maintains active investigation efforts in coordination with the Public Ministry, in order to delve into the lines of inquiry that lead to the identification and capture of those possibly responsible for this regrettable event.
