Santo Domingo.- Former senator Charlie Mariotti announced this Tuesday his intention to run for the Presidency of the Republic, basing his decision on a career of public service and a deep understanding of the functioning of the State.
“I am launching my presidential candidacy because I believe in my country. I have dedicated my best efforts to a better Dominican Republic,” Mariotti expressed in a statement. You may be interested in: RODOLFO SANTOS ARREMETE CONTRA CHARLIE MARIOTTI
The former secretary general of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) added that he has managed to balance his public responsibilities with his family life. “I have fulfilled my duties and assignments in the public sphere, and I have also built a family”, he pointed out. Mariotti recalled his active participation -as a senator- in the approval of key laws for the country’s institutional architecture. “There isn’t a single important bill for the Dominican institutional design where my vision of the country and well-founded suggestions haven’t been present,” he affirmed. Among the regulations he mentioned were the Electoral Regime Law, the Political Parties Law, laws that created new ministries, as well as the National Qualifications Framework, fundamental, according to him, to improve technical-vocational education and its articulation with the university system. He also highlighted his role in the drafting of the first Solid Waste Law approved in 2020 and his participation in multiple budgetary processes, including supplementary ones. During his time in public administration, Mariotti was also governor for two years and held the position of secretary general of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) for three and a half years, the information said.
