Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) maintains the yellow alert for rains in La Vega and the green alert in a total of 16 provinces of the Dominican territory due to the passage of a tropical wave associated with a low-pressure center located hundreds of kilometers south of Puerto Rico, the institution reported this Monday.
In this way, the provinces on green alert are Sánchez Ramírez, María Trinidad Sánchez, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, San José de Ocoa, El Seibo, Samaná, San Juan, Santiago, Distrito Nacional, San Cristóbal, Monseñor Nouel, Santo Domingo, Monte Plata La Altagracia and Hato Mayor.

Said tropical wave has a "high probability" of becoming a tropical cyclone within the next 24 or 48 hours and is expected to continue moving west in the coming hours, the COE reported in a statement. In addition, cloudiness linked to this system is forecast to generate heavy downpours with thunderstorms and wind gusts. In the coming days, the tropical wave has an 80% probability of cyclonic development. The COE recommends that operators of fragile, small and medium-sized vessels on the Atlantic coast remain in port due to dangerous wind and waves. Likewise, on the Caribbean coast, the waves will begin to deteriorate, starting at 5:00 p.m., so fragile, small, and medium-sized vessels "must remain in port, due to abnormal winds and waves." For its part, the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) recommended that bathers and users consult local authorities before using the beaches.
