SANTO DOMINGO. – The Emergency Operations Center (COE) increased to eight the provinces on green alert due to the effects of a tropical wave over Haiti, which, along with a trough, is generating rainfall in a large part of the national territory.
The demarcations under alert are: La Altagracia, El Seibo, Azua, La Vega, Hato Mayor, San José de Ocoa, Elías Piña and Dajabón. The agency called on the population not to cross rivers, streams or ravines with large flows, as well as to refrain from using spas in these areas. It also urged those who live in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant against possible rises and sudden floods.

The National Meteorology Office (Onamet) reported that the rains will gradually decrease during the night, but warned that for this Friday new rainfall is expected from dawn in sectors of Gran Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, La Romana and San Pedro de Macorís. In the afternoon, local showers with electrical storms and wind gusts are expected in inland provinces such as La Vega, San Juan, San José de Ocoa and Peravia. Regarding Tropical Storm Gabrielle, Onamet detailed that it was located 1,220 kilometers east/northeast of the Lesser Antilles, with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h and moving west/northwest at about 24 km/h. He also indicated that a tropical wave located near the Cape Verde islands has a cyclonic probability of 20% in the next seven days. The authorities maintain constant monitoring of the evolution of these systems.
