Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) declared a red alert for the National District and Santo Domingo province due to the heavy rains caused by the incidence of a trough combined with a frontal system that affects a large part of the national territory.
Since the afternoon hours of this Monday, Greater Santo Domingo has registered intense downpours accompanied by wind gusts and electrical storms, generating concern among the authorities due to the risk of urban flooding and sudden rises in water levels.
In total, about 28 provinces are under different levels of meteorological alert. Under yellow alert are Puerto Plata, Espaillat, María Trinidad Sánchez, Valverde, Santiago, San Pedro de Macorís, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, Monte Plata, La Vega, Monte Cristi, La Altagracia, San José de Ocoa, San Cristóbal, Duarte (especially Bajo Yuna), La Romana, Santiago Rodríguez, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Hermanas Mirabal and Samaná.
