Santiago. – The coercion measure hearing against the eleven police officers accused of killing five men in an alleged shootout in the La Barranquita de Santiago sector extended for almost four hours this Tuesday, keeping relatives and observers of the process in suspense.
The hearing, known in the Court of Appeals due to the lack of space in the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention of the judicial district of Santiago, is presided over by Judge Yerixa Cabral. Representatives of the Public Ministry, defense lawyers and victims participate in it, who remain in the room from the beginning of the day.

During the process, family members of both the victims and the accused agents remained in the corridors of the Federico Álvarez Palace of Justice, awaiting the court's decision on the measures requested by the parties. The case has generated great public interest due to the magnitude of the event that occurred on September 10th, when five men lost their lives during a police intervention in the southern zone of Santiago. While the Public Ministry qualifies the event as an extrajudicial execution, the defense of the agents maintains that it was a confrontation. As of now, the court is still deliberating, and the judge is expected to issue a ruling on the coercive measures to be imposed on the eleven members of the National Police involved in the case in the coming hours.
