Santo Domingo. – A private school transport driver was nearly lynched by a crowd after being accused of allegedly molesting a minor he was transporting from her school, in an incident that occurred on Luperón Avenue.

According to versions offered by witnesses at the scene, the driver, identified only as Darío, was traveling in his vehicle with the girl when the driver of a tanker truck noticed a situation he considered irregular. The truck driver stated that he observed the man making inappropriate touching to the minor, so he acted immediately to stop him and alert other people who were on the road. As a result, motorcycle taxi drivers and passersby gathered at the scene and, visibly altered, tried to physically assault the accused. Subsequently, a teacher from the educational center arrived at the scene and spoke with the girl, who had stated that the driver was touching her inappropriately, a version that reinforced the initial accusation and heightened the tension among those present. In the midst of the incident, a sister of the driver showed up at the scene and claimed it was a misunderstanding, defending the man's behavior and stating that he has transported children for years without any prior complaints against him. The case generated moments of great tension and the intervention of the authorities was necessary to prevent the crowd from taking justice into their own hands. So far, the event remains under investigation to clarify what happened and determine responsibilities according to the law. The authorities reiterated the call to citizens to allow the competent bodies to carry out the corresponding investigations and not to engage in acts of violence.
