Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic said on Sunday that it is still analyzing the eventual resumption of commercial flights to Venezuela, after the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) of the South American country reported on the reestablishment of said operations, suspended since July 2024 after the questioning of several countries for the proclamation of Nicolás Maduro as winner of the presidential elections.
The Dominican government, through the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), "will responsibly evaluate and in strict adherence to the national interest any request to re-establish air routes, as is the case of Venezuela," said the president of this organization, Héctor Porcella, in a statement.
"Until an official decision is issued, air operations between both countries remain suspended," specified Porcella, who noted that "any decision in this area will be promptly reported through the corresponding institutional channels and through the official channels of the Dominican State."
This same Sunday, INAC reported on its Instagram account about the resumption of passenger, cargo and mail air operations to and from the Dominican Republic, although it did not confirm whether the measure came into effect immediately or gave more information.
These operations were suspended by order of Maduro's Executive since July 31 of last year, when he also closed the air connection with Panama, in response to what he then considered as "interventionist actions" by these countries in relation to the presidential elections held that month in the Caribbean nation.
The measure also responded to "the presumption of the use of civil aviation for purposes not compatible with the principles of security", according to Chavismo.
The Governments of Panama and the Dominican Republic, along with those of Uruguay, Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, and Peru, had then expressed their deep concern about the development of the presidential elections, and demanded a complete review of the results announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which declared Maduro the winner, which the majority opposition denounced as "fraudulent".

Subsequently, Caracas demanded from Panama and the Dominican Republic, among other Latin American countries, "the immediate withdrawal of their representatives in Venezuelan territory", in rejection of their "interventionist actions and declarations" regarding the presidential elections. Also, Venezuela decided to "withdraw all diplomatic personnel from the missions" in those nations. On May 22nd, commercial flights between Panama and Venezuela resumed, although diplomatic relations between both countries remain on hold, as with the Dominican Republic.
