“Don't kill her twice”: cries mother of young woman murdered in Los Guandules

Santo Domingo.– Amid tears and indignation, Linette Pacheco, mother of the young Jokasta Santos Pacheco, 19 years old, raised her voice to demand justice for the death of her daughter and categorically reject the versions that, according to her, seek to discredit her after her death.

"Don't kill her twice: neither society nor those who are making accusations that are not true," expressed the woman, visibly affected, referring to accusations that link the young woman to alleged criminal gangs. She assured that her daughter was a university student and that she had clear professional aspirations.

Pacheco explained that Jokasta was preparing to begin law studies, with the goal of becoming a criminal lawyer, and that she had even been registered to attend the Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE), the institution where she herself studied. “A gang doesn't study. There are the university papers”, he emphasized. The mother also defended her daughter's right to be on the public road at the time of the event, pointing out that she was of legal age and that these were festive dates on which a large part of the population was in the streets. "Don't justify the unjustifiable," she claimed. In his statements, he requested that the judicial process be carried out without privileges for the accused and that everything that happened be thoroughly investigated. "Don't send him to a special jail as if he hadn't killed anyone. There is a destroyed family here," he stated. Pacheco's statements come after the Permanent Attention Office of the National District imposed three months of preventive prison on Army Major Diego Geraldo Mesa, accused of being linked to the death of Jokasta Santos Pacheco, a measure adopted at the request of the Public Ministry while investigations into the case continue.
