SANTO DOMINGO.– The president of the Patria Libre party, Fernando Abreu, denounced this Thursday that “violent left-wing” groups within the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) had allegedly engaged in an armed confrontation among themselves, attempting, according to him, to blame him and his political team for the event.

Abreu stated that neither he nor any of the members of his political group were at the UASD facilities at the time of the incident, as their debate had been moved "two days ago" to another location, following the alleged "censorship" by the university authorities.

"The level of madness of these left-wing groups is alarming. Everything indicates that this fabricated self-attack seeks to generate hatred against me, fabricate a case and justify possible attacks against our team," Abreu expressed through a video released on social media. Likewise, he held several professors and security personnel from UASD responsible for any attack against him, accusing them of being "aggressors" and of maintaining links with groups that promote violence. He also pointed to the university rector, whom he described as a "perremeista," for supposedly "defending and justifying" the aggressions. Abreu called on the national authorities, including the President of the Republic and the ministers linked to the security area, to guarantee his integrity and that of the members of his party.
