Santo Domingo.– A strong explosion caused by a gas tank shook the In Tempo Villa Marina tower, located in the Villa Marina sector of the National District, leaving a balance of 5 injured, including two in serious condition, according to preliminary reports from the Fire Department. The explosion occurred on the second floor of the building, in the apartment where a couple of Chinese nationality resided.

"It all started when the Chinese woman and her Haitian maintenance man entered the apartment, and minutes later everything exploded, turning into a ball of fire," reported a neighbor who was consulted.

Commander José Luis Frómeta Herasme, from the National District Fire Department, explained that so far the preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion was caused by gas accumulation in the kitchen area.

"We are carrying out the corresponding evaluations to determine the exact causes of the incident. So far there are only 5 injured and 2 of them are in serious condition. All the neighbors were evacuated from the 6-story tower," indicated Frómeta Herasme.

The injured were taken to health centers in the capital, while fire units, the National Police, and the National Emergency System 911 secured the area and temporarily evacuated the residential tower as a precautionary measure.
