SANTO DOMINGO.- Doctor Carlos Sánchez, director of High Cost Medicines Access, specified that in August 2020, the budget of the Directorate of Access to High Cost Medicines (DAMAC) barely reached RD$2,786,696,976, destined for about 2,500 patients.
He maintained that in contrast, for the present year the institution's budget amounts to RD$7,313,861,754, which allows to cover 7,400 patients, that is, three times the number attended in 2020.

In that sense, he reported that the budget invested during the year 2025 in oncological treatment for patients amounts to RD$2,273,184,325.06, which covers 1,222 active patients, of whom 254 were admitted in the same year. The head of High Cost also said that all active patients, who have already started their treatment for oncological diseases and any other pathology that are treated by that direction, are guaranteed their treatment for life and that their warehouses hold the treatment until the year 2026. He attributed the complaints made against the medication program to political intentions and misinformation.
