Puerto Plata.- This Monday, since the early hours of the morning, heavy downpours have been recorded that have considerably affected various areas of the province of Puerto Plata due to the incidence of a frontal system in the territory.
The heavy rains have caused flooding in Sosúa, where several vehicles were stranded due to the high water level. Similarly, flooding has been reported in the low-lying area of Agua Negra, Barrio Nuevo, as well as in sectors of Maimón and Los Rieles. Faced with this situation, the authorities issued a call for caution to people residing in areas near rivers, streams, and ravines, due to the risk of sudden flooding. Likewise, the community alerts to pay special attention to vulnerable areas, including Montellano, Sosua, Sabaneta and La Unión, in order to prevent further damage and safeguard the lives of citizens.You may be interested in: Rain hinders search for missing girl in Imbert
According to the Dominican Republic Meteorology Institute (Indomet), showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts are currently generated towards provinces such as Monte Cristi, Puerto Plata, Espaillat, Valverde, Dajabón, the northern part of Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Hermanas Mirabal, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, among others in the Cibao region, while other less intense precipitations occur towards La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo and Hato Mayor. This rainy activity will continue to spread over the next few hours as heavy showers at times with probable thunderstorms and wind gusts, in locations of La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, Azua, San Juan, Baoruco, Independencia and Santo Domingo; even during the night, when it is forecast to prevail mainly towards provinces of the southeast such as La Romana, El Seibo, La Altagracia, among others of the Atlantic coast.
