According to Cruz Méndez, in 2024, 3,144 deaths were recorded due to traffic accidents in Higüey, representing an average of eight deaths per day. Most of these cases involve motorcyclists without protective helmets.

“Traffic in Higüey has become a crisis that requires everyone’s attention. It is not only the task of Digesett, but also of local governments, communities, and the private sector,” said the general.

Among the main causes of this problem, he mentioned recklessness in driving, lack of road education, and disregard for Law 63-17 on mobility and road safety. The head of Digesett announced that after this meeting, concrete actions will be implemented to reduce accidents in the province.

“Higüey necesita un cambio urgente, y estamos comprometidos a trabajar para lograrlo”,
