Santo Domingo, RD.– Journalist Salvador Holguín responded to the statements of the jurist Miguel Valerio, lawyer of Santiago Hazim, assuring that President Luis Abinader has proven to be a democratic leader and respectful of the independence of the powers of the State.
Holguín affirmed that, thanks to that institutional respect, Valerio can freely exercise the defense of his client. He added that, if the president acted as in previous governments, Hazim —a personal friend of Abinader and political collaborator— would have been protected instead of investigated. You may be interested in: http://Abinader asegura casos de desapariciones en RD se tratan todos iguales
"President Abinader is a democrat who respects the powers of the State, and that's why you can represent your client. Otherwise, he would have protected him, as happened in the governments of Leonel Fernández and Danilo Medina," said the communicator. Holguín highlighted that, unlike in the past, the authorities not only investigated Hazim, but also arrested him and brought him before the justice system without any interference. He described Valerio's criticism as "unfounded" and reiterated that the Executive's actions demonstrate a firm commitment to transparency and institutionalism.
