Hospital to manage transfers due to lack of space in ICU after accident in Jamao al Norte

Espaillat. – The doctor Miguelina Compres, director of the Dr. Toribio Bencosme Hospital, reported this Sunday that transfers of several injured people are being arranged following the bus accident registered in Jamao al Norte, due to the lack of availability in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). "It's not because we lack the ability to respond, but because the ICU spaces are full. There are already patients requiring intensive care, therefore, we are making connections with other institutions," declared Compres.

So far, two people have been reported dead and more than 20 injured, including several children who, according to the doctor, are "stable within their condition." She assured that all medical personnel —orthopedists, surgeons, pediatricians, and emergency physicians— are providing timely and quality care.

"We are providing the necessary care, hoping that everything has a favorable solution. We already have responses from other centers and we are going to transfer a few patients. Everything is under control," affirmed Compres, who also asked family members to stay informed through the hospital's official channels. The tragic accident took place in the community of El Higüerito, Jamao al Norte municipality, Espaillat province. The causes are still under investigation by the authorities, while medical attention and transfer processes continue for the most critical cases.
