Santo Domingo. – The director of the National Institute of Student Welfare (INABIE), Adolfo Pérez, highlighted that reading and good nutrition are pillars of the integral development of young people, during the educational talk “A healthy life connects you to well-being and books”, held at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library, within the framework of the XXVII Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2025 (FILSD 2025).
“Encouraging reading boosts the overall development of young people and opens opportunities to reduce inequalities. The activity brought together students from the Liceo Estados Unidos, who participated in educational dynamics and games about healthy habits. Doctors Jennifer Suero and Elvira Polanco explained how balanced nutrition enhances comprehension, concentration, and learning, highlighting that “reading is a superpower and nutrition is the fuel that activates it”.
During the day, the concept of the “Super Reading Plate” was presented, a pedagogical tool that teaches how to prepare balanced meals to strengthen school performance and emotional well-being. The INABIE’s deputy directors, Luis Valdez, Gilberto Santana, and Melvin Ramírez, were present at the talk; the director of Health and Nutrition, Luis Lizardo, and the advisor Hanoi Vásquez.
