Punta Cana, La Altagracia.- A lieutenant colonel of the Dominican Republic Army passed away early this Monday after falling from the balcony of the apartment where he resided, located in the West Villa Village residential complex, in Punta Cana.
The victim was identified as Juan Salvador Toribio Mejía, 45, who held the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Dominican Army. According to preliminary information, the officer fell from the fourth level of the Botánica building, within the aforementioned residential complex.
Following the incident, members of the Central Directorate of Investigation (Dicrim), agents of the Scientific Police, representatives of the Public Ministry, and a medical examiner arrived at the scene to conduct the corresponding investigations.

According to the preliminary report, authorities established that the officer was on the balcony of his apartment when the fall occurred. The medical examiner certified that the death was caused by hemorrhagic shock resulting from severe traumatic brain injury due to the fall from a height.

During the inspection carried out at the residence, the authorities did not locate the service weapon assigned to the officer, a situation that is part of the ongoing investigations.
The case remains under investigation by the authorities of La Altagracia province, who are seeking to clarify the circumstances in which the tragic event occurred.
So far, no further details have been offered regarding the possible causes of the incident, while the corresponding investigations continue to determine exactly what happened.
