Santo Domingo. – The Israeli ambassador in the Dominican Republic, Raslan Abu Rukun, made a courtesy visit this Wednesday to the digital media outlet De Último Minuto, where he was received by the newspaper's director, Héctor Romero, along with members of the editorial team.
During the meeting, the diplomat addressed various issues of bilateral interest, including the current situation in the Middle East, cooperation between both countries and, in particular, the reality of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. The ambassador explained that in recent weeks a "distorted campaign of pressure and discredit against Israel" has been circulating, based on false and decontextualized information. He reaffirmed that Israel has guaranteed the constant flow of aid to Gaza since the beginning of the conflict, but that the problem lies in the distribution of these supplies, which - according to his denunciation - has been hindered and manipulated by the terrorist group Hamas. "Israel has facilitated over 1,200 trucks with over 23,000 tons of aid in just one week. In addition, daily 12-hour humanitarian pauses and aerial drops with food and medicine have been implemented," explained the diplomat. He also indicated that the UN has managed to distribute around 950 trucks during that same period, although hundreds of them still remain uncollected due to insecurity and internal blockades.Ambassador Raslan Abu Rukun condemned Hamas' actions, whom he held responsible for stealing humanitarian aid and using it for military purposes, including attacking their own population to blame Israel. As an example of media manipulation, he cited the case of the child Osama al-Rakab, whose image has gone viral for propaganda purposes, despite the fact that his physical condition is due to a pre-existing genetic disease and that he has already been evacuated to receive medical attention in Italy.
