Judge Alejandro Vargas says questions to TC judges must be random:  “This avoids some clairvoyants”

Santo Domingo.- The magistrate of the Constitutional Court, José Alejandro Vargas, referred to the way in which candidates for judges of the high courts are evaluated, expressing an initiative with which he believes transparency in the process can be strengthened. For Vargas, the way evaluation is currently carried out can lend itself to some candidates presenting with memorized answers, managing to excel without necessarily reflecting real knowledge.

“This prevents some clairvoyants from appearing in the solemn hall of interpellations with their memorized answers and shining as unparalleled titans of legal knowledge to the detriment of others who lack the virtue of being seers, as in our case,” wrote Vargas.

As explained, the National Council of the Magistracy must first prepare a set of technical-legal questions, put them in a container and draw them at random in front of the public during the interpellations. He also emphasized that ethics should be the fundamental criterion in the evaluation of candidates, pointing out that those who ignore it represent a risk to justice and the stability of the judicial system.
