Santo Domingo.- The Third Chamber of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeals of the National District annulled this Friday the sentence of seven years in prison imposed on Elizabeth Silverio, accused of practicing neuroscience without valid academic titles, and ordered the holding of a new trial.
The court accepted the defense's arguments, which denounced procedural flaws and errors in the evaluation of the evidence. In its ruling, the judges concluded that the sentence issued in October 2024 by the Third Collegiate Court of the National District presented failures in the application of legal norms and lack of sufficient motivation.

The Court ordered that another court hear the case again, evaluating from scratch the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the defense. With this decision, Silverio will have a new opportunity to prove his innocence. Although she had been convicted, the defendant remained at liberty, as Article 441 of the Criminal Procedure Code allows the suspension of the execution of a sentence while it is under appeal. Silverio was accused of performing evaluations and diagnoses on children with behavioral and learning disorders at the closed center Knowledge Land Kogland, located in Gascue, using alleged fake degrees in psychology and neuroscience.
