Santo Domingo.– The hearing to determine the coercive measure against Jean Andrés Pumarol Fernández, accused of a knife attack that left a woman dead and five people injured in the Ensanche Naco, was postponed to this Sunday, July 27 at 9:00 in the morning, as confirmed by his defense attorney, Richard Martínez.

Martínez explained that the postponement occurred because the defendant is still admitted to a medical center, which has prevented his transfer to the court.

“The defendant is in the hospital, that’s why the hearing was postponed to Sunday at 9:00 a.m.,” detailed the jurist, who added that he hopes the transfer will take place between this Friday or Saturday, so that Pumarol Fernández can appear before the judge. Regarding the health status of the injured, the lawyer said he did not have precise information. “I saw that in the press and that’s really all I know right now,” he stated. The National District Attorney’s Office had requested preventive detention against Pumarol Fernández, while his psychiatric evaluation was being processed, after his family alleged that he suffers from mental disorders. However, the Public Ministry maintains that this condition must be verified by specialists and does not represent, by itself, an exemption from criminal responsibility.
