Jet Set Case: court summons mother of the Espaillat brothers and sets hearings from April 6

Santo Domingo.– The hearing of the judicial process related to the Jet Set case was postponed to April 6th, a decision adopted by the court during this Monday's session at the Palace of Justice in Ciudad Nueva, according to lawyers for the plaintiff parties upon leaving the courtroom.

The lawyer Cristian García, representative of Mariela Díaz, mother of former baseball player Octavio Dotel, who died in the accident, explained that the court decided to postpone the hearing of the case because the defense filed its means of defense this Monday. "It was postponed to Friday, April 6th. From now on it will be sequentially every Monday to be able to know the file and the preventive measure," he indicated. García pointed out that, in addition to the filing of the defense briefs, the postponement also seeks to summon Mrs. Ana Grecia López, who, according to him, is the manager of the company linked to the establishment and founder of it. The jurist considered that part of the requests made by some of the parties could be interpreted as delaying tactics, although he clarified that the court also took into account other procedural elements to postpone the hearing.

"It may be a delaying tactic; however, if it hadn't been for the other two means I have just explained, at least it would have been possible to begin reading the accusation," he maintained.

From his side, lawyer Félix Portes informed that the judge established a schedule to continue the process, indicating that the reading of the formal accusation will be carried out every Monday starting April 6th. Portes explained that in the upcoming hearings, the defense briefs will be notified and the court will also have to decide on various requests submitted by both the plaintiff and the defendants. Likewise, he indicated that new defendants have been included in the process, including Ana Grecia López, the Ayuntamiento del Distrito Nacional, and the Ministry of Public Works, who must be formally summoned by the court. "The court is going to summon all those people who were included in the alternative subsidiary accusations," he expressed. The lawyer added that these entities and individuals must receive the corresponding notifications so that they can present their means of defense and evidence, as well as have legal representation during the development of the process.

Portes also pointed out that there are several additional plaintiffs who have joined the case, although he highlighted that the most important thing is that the court has already set a schedule that will allow all parties to review the accusation and the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office. During the hearing, it was also mentioned that some digital evidence presented in the file did not open correctly, so the judge urged the lawyers to go to the Public Prosecutor's Office to obtain full access to the documentation. "The Public Ministry must facilitate everything, as it is indeed doing," concluded Portes.
