Santo Domingo.- The defense of former Minister of Administrative Affairs of the Presidency, José Ramón Peralta, stated today that the accusation presented by the Public Ministry "is a story for lack of evidence", after hearing the reply of the accusing body during the hearing held this Friday before the Fourth Instruction Court of the National District.
The lawyers pointed out that, during their intervention, the Public Ministry limited itself to repeating the accusation presented at the beginning of the process, without presenting new evidence or responding to any of the arguments presented by the technical defense. You may be interested in: Public Ministry implements body cameras in fiscal operations
The defense insisted, through a note, that a serious procedural defect has occurred, by attempting to sustain the accusation in an interrogation of an accused who had already been questioned previously in the years 2021 and 2022, and that, as they recalled, should be considered inadmissible within the process for non-compliance with the Criminal Procedure Code. In that sense, they indicated that it is irregular that the accusing body intends to use that interrogation again as the basis of its accusatory narrative. Likewise, the lawyers pointed out that the Public Ministry has reiterated accusations about alleged funds linked to political campaigns, but has not presented evidence to demonstrate that said resources have been obtained or handled irregularly. Peralta and former Public Works ministers Gonzalo Castillo and Hacienda Donald Guerrero are accused by the Public Ministry of heading an alleged corruption network that handled more than 19,000 million pesos during the government of former President Danilo Medina.
