Man who, along with another, murdered a professor in 2024 sentenced to 20 years in prison

Santo Domingo.- A collegiate court of Santo Domingo Este sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for robbing and murdering another in 2024, in the El Valiente de Boca Chica sector, the Public Ministry reported this Wednesday.

Yorkis Daniel Sosa Medina (Yorkito) was convicted of the murder of Antonio de la Cruz Pérez, a physical education teacher and taxi driver.

In the trial, the Public Prosecutor's Office, represented by the investigating prosecutor Juan A Olivares, presented sufficient evidence to the court demonstrating the criminal responsibility of the accused, the organization stated in a note. Sosa Medina committed the act in complicity with the now deceased Alfredo Tifá Reyes, on the morning of August 27, 2024, when Pérez de la Cruz left his home at 5:00 in the morning to work as a taxi driver, a job he did before going to the educational center where he taught. In those taxi driver tasks, Pérez de la Cruz picked up Sosa Medina and Tifá Reyes, who shot and killed him to rob him of his vehicle and belongings, leaving the body abandoned in the surroundings of the Riviera del Caribe residential complex, in the El Valiente sector, of the municipality of Boca Chica. That same day, Sosa Medina showed up on Francisco Street, in the Los Frailes II sector of Santo Domingo Este, with the victim's vehicle, initially stating that he had bought it, but in the early hours of August 28, he was seen changing the license plate of the Hyundai Sonata, model Y20 car, while narrating to those present what they had done to the victim. The person involved was shot dead by the Police, who seized from him the XDS brand pistol, 9mm caliber, No. S3760511, with its magazine and which, when analyzed with the shell casing found at the crime scene of Antonio de la Cruz Pérez. By decision of the Second Collegiate Court of Santo Domingo Este, composed of judges Josefina Ubiera Guerrero, Yury Cuevas de la Cruz and Isaías R. Martínez, the defendant will serve the sentence in the Najayo Hombres Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in San Cristóbal.
