SANTO DOMINGO. – The Public Ministry requested the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Santiago the imposition of preventive prison as a coercive measure against two men accused of committing an assault to the detriment of a woman on the public road, an event that occurred last Sunday, March 8. The instance presented by the Prosecutor's Office of Santiago identifies the accused as David Jiménez Féliz and Christopher Torres Ortiz, alias “El Mosquito”, who allegedly snatched the purse from a Haitian woman while she was walking along a section of Salvador Cucurullo street, in the center of the city of Santiago de los Caballeros.

According to the record, both were traveling on a black Z3000 CG200 motorcycle, driven by Jiménez Félix, when Torres Ortiz would have snatched the wallet from the victim, which contained cash. The document indicates that, after committing the act, the driver of a vehicle who witnessed the scene hit the alleged assailants' motorcycle to prevent their escape. As a result of the crash, the motorcycle was partially destroyed, so the suspects left the scene on foot. Subsequently, the Santiago Prosecutor's Office executed the arrest warrants against the accused when they appeared before the Department of Crimes and Offenses against Property of the prosecuting body. The Public Ministry indicated that it has videos from surveillance cameras that captured the incident, which were collected by the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM) and the Cybernetic Police Area Directorate (DICAT). Provisionally, the accused are charged with violating several articles of the Dominican Republic Penal Code, related to criminal association and attempted robbery with violence on public roads. The court postponed the hearing until Friday, March 13th.
