Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry reported this Thursday that a court of first instance sentenced Omayra Antonia Lugo Cruz to 10 years in prison, after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl with whom she has a third-degree relationship by blood, in an event that occurred in the Las Flores de Cristo Rey sector, in the National District.
The defendant's sister and the victim's mother committed suicide along with the girl after the case was made public.
Within the evidence provided, the Public Ministry managed to incorporate the victim's testimony recorded in a Gesell chamber prior to her death, since, according to the prosecution, as a result of the complaint filed against Lugo Cruz, for the events that occurred to the detriment of the girl, her mother began to receive pressure from relatives.

This, in turn, led to the woman throwing herself and her 4-year-old daughter from the fourth floor of the building where they resided on August 13, 2024, an event that caused the death of both. The court, composed of judges Arlín Ventura, Leticia Martínez, and Milagros Ramírez, made the decision after accepting the request of the Public Ministry, which gave the case the qualification of violation of the Dominican Penal Code and the Code for the Protection and Fundamental Rights of Children and Adolescents. The prosecuting body, represented by the litigating prosecutors, Eduardo Velásquez, Carlenny Camilo and Cinthia Bonetti, demonstrated the facts through material evidence contained in several cell phones and a USB memory that the defendant used to make video calls and record videos, from which images and audios of the circumstances of how the events occurred were extracted, to the detriment of the infant. The Third Collegiate Court of the National District determined that the defendant should serve her sentence at the Najayo-Mujeres Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), in the province of San Cristóbal.
