Santiago. – The mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez, categorically stated that in approximately six weeks, the construction of the works related to the renovation of the Hospedaje Yaque will begin, indicating that the public contracting process is in its final awarding phase and that the funds have already been transferred by the central government.
“The process is on the portal and the schedule established by law is being followed,” the municipal executive emphasized, when answering questions about the delay in the start of the works. He explained that the recent modification to the Procurement and Contracting regulations obliges to exhaust each formal stage before awarding and starting the execution.

Rodríguez revealed that President Luis Abinader has already transferred the resources to an account designated for the project, so, according to what he assured, there is no financial obstacle to starting the works once the administrative process is concluded. The statements come after the announcement made by the president in Santiago de los Caballeros, where he informed about the integral renovation of the Hospedaje Yaque, the construction of the Mirador del Yaque in the area known as “Nueva York chiquito” and several sanitation works, with a joint investment of RD$658 million. The mayor was emphatic in pointing out that this is the first time a municipal administration has directly undertaken the transformation of the Yaque Hostel, a space he described as "historically postponed." "It's a sensitive issue that no one had addressed with determination. We are facing it with transparency," he said. With the ongoing adjudication and available funds, the council projects that, once the legal deadlines have been met, a formal intervention will begin that seeks to impact the infrastructure, commercial organization, and sanitary conditions of one of the most emblematic and vulnerable areas of the city.
