MESCyT, Trabajo y Uniromana promote education and employment in the Eastern region with a new agreement

Government and private sector seek to strengthen tourism and create decent jobs in the East through an agreement Santo Domingo. – With the aim of transforming higher education and boosting job opportunities in the Eastern region of the country, the ministries of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), Labor, and the University of La Romana (Uniromana) signed a framework agreement for institutional collaboration. The agreement establishes joint actions for the professionalization of the inhabitants of the area through diplomas in nursing and gastronomy, which will be taught by Uniromana and financed by MESCyT through specific agreements. These initiatives seek to raise the educational quality and improve the preparation of future professionals in the hotel and service sector. The MESCyT will be in charge of awarding the scholarships to the selected beneficiaries through a public call, guaranteeing transparency and equal opportunities.

In that sense, the Ministry of Labor will act as a link to facilitate the labor insertion of graduates in hotels and institutions in the region, strengthening employability and the link between academic training and the labor market.  Meanwhile, Uniromana, for its part, will be responsible for the planning and execution of academic programs, ensuring high standards of educational quality. The agreement also contemplates the joint promotion of activities, respect for the autonomy of each institution, and mechanisms to amicably resolve any disputes that may arise during its execution.  According to the agreement, the validity of said agreement will be for one year, from September 2, 2025 to September 2, 2026, with the possibility of modifications or termination by mutual agreement. The Minister of MESCyT, Franklin García Fermín, highlighted that this agreement reinforces the Dominican government's commitment to higher education and the professional development of the population. On his part, Eddy de Jesús Olivares Ortega, Minister of Labor, emphasized the importance of articulating education and employment to boost regional competitiveness. While the rector of Uniromana, Manuel Hernández Ruiz Gómez, highlighted the relevance of these programs to train highly qualified professionals prepared for the challenges of the labor market. This agreement constitutes a joint effort to raise the professional level of the inhabitants of the Eastern region, consolidating strategic alliances between public and academic institutions and promoting the socioeconomic and educational development of the Dominican Republic.
