More than 2,500 new families are integrated into the Overcoming Route in Santiago

Santiago. – The general director of the Directorate of Social Development Supérate (DDSS), Gloria Reyes, along with local authorities of this province, led the incorporation of more than 2,000 new families into the Poverty Overcoming Route (RSP), a strategy that seeks to accompany households in vulnerable situations towards their development and social mobility. The social day aimed to reinforce the Dominican government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for inclusion and well-being, placing families at the center as protagonists of their own development. During her intervention, Gloria Reyes highlighted that the Poverty Overcoming Route represents a new vision of social inclusion, focused on family empowerment and community strengthening. She explained that the goal is for each vulnerable household to achieve the autonomy and confidence necessary to proudly affirm: “I can”.

To achieve this, he explained that the program has transformed its accompaniment model, replacing the traditional figure of the supervisor with a community support network that listens to, supports, and accompanies families in their process of overcoming.

“That’s what we seek with the Poverty Alleviation Route: that Dominican families can say with confidence and hope ‘I can’. And for that to be possible, we need communities that get involved, that accompany and that are an active part of the change,” Reyes affirmed.

During the presentation of 2,500 Supérate cards in the province of Santiago, Governor Rosa Santos highlighted the positive impact of the program on reducing social vulnerability and valued the commitment of Director Gloria Reyes and her team to ensure an equitable distribution throughout the territory. Santos highlighted that, unlike before, the Government’s actions now also reach rural communities, promoting inclusion and well-being for the most needy families

“These cards are for the well-being of each of you. They are not to be traded, they are used responsibly for food and the home. Today Santiago receives this support thanks to an open, close and fair Government, which reaches every corner of the province.”, said Rosa Santos, governor of Santiago.

About the Path of Overcoming

With this new phase, the Poverty Overcoming Route reaches 276,951 impacted households, benefiting more than 830,000 people throughout the country between March 2024 and September 2025.

This strategy constitutes an innovative model of social intervention that addresses poverty from a multidimensional perspective. Its methodology promotes the adoption of healthy habits, the development of aspirations, technical training, the strengthening of technological skills, and community participation. The goal by 2028 is to impact 1,495,141 households, more than 4.4 million people, through actions that promote autonomy, social cohesion, and sustainable well-being in the most vulnerable sectors of the Dominican Republic.
