More than 900 military and police members will reinforce security at the Carnival Parade

Santo Domingo,.- More than 900 members of the military, police, and law enforcement agencies, in addition to 300 members of rescue organizations, will be mobilized this Sunday in a large-scale operation to reinforce security at the National Parade of Carnival of Santo Domingo, on the Malecón of the capital, indicated this Thursday the Ministry of Culture. Units from the Ministry of Defense —Navy, Air Force, and the Dominican Republic Army—, as well as departments of the National Police, including the Preventive Police and the Tourist Police, will be part of the operation.

Also, members of the General Directorate of Traffic and Ground Transportation Safety (Digesett) and the Municipal Police attached to the Mayor's Office of the National District, detailed the Culture portfolio in a statement. Security personnel will be deployed along George Washington Avenue and adjacent roads to contribute to smooth traffic flow and prevent obstructions at emergency exits. In addition, eight first aid and rescue stations will be installed at "strategic points" near the seawall, where rescuers, paramedics, doctors, sanitary transport technicians, and nursing staff will be available. Also, two tents will be set up for the care of lost children. In this edition, the parade will be dedicated to the province of Puerto Plata, "cradle of one of the most distinctive carnival manifestations in the country, characterized by its link with the sea and by the taimáscaro, a character created in 1991 as an emblem of that demarcation." The parade king will be the renowned documentarian Mariano Hernández, while the queen will be Zoila Luna, a reference in national television and radio. The day will also feature the participation of invited international delegations from the Carnaval de Negros y Blancos de Pasto (Colombia), the National Federation of Masqueraders and Fancy Dress of Ghana, the Independent League of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro and the Carnaval de la Playa de Ponce (Puerto Rico).

Closure of the seawall

Due to the parade's logistics, George Washington Avenue, in the section between Máximo Gómez Avenue and Palo Hincado Street, will remain closed from Friday, March 13th at 10:00 PM until the event ends. Similarly, the total closure of George Washington Avenue is in place, between Abraham Lincoln Avenue and Palo Hincado Street, effective from midnight on Saturday until Monday, March 16th at five in the morning. Entry to the National Parade of firearms, bladed weapons or sharp objects will be prohibited; entry with animals; the use of glass bottles, cans and blunt containers; as well as the use of kites.
