SANTO DOMINGO, RD.- The mother of Nicole “Rubí” Peña, Mayra Alejandra Peña, reported that her daughter is in critical condition after being hit by a motorcycle at the intersection of San Vicente de Paúl and 4 de Agosto corner, last Wednesday at 10:40 p.m.
According to the mother, the young woman was hit by Noel Leomin Mejía Cadena, who was driving a "Honda Fit green" car. After the accident, Peña assures that the driver did not provide medical attention nor called 911, and was later taken to his house, where he remained until being released around 2:40 in the morning, without having given any signs of life or assumed responsibility so far.

The minor's mother maintains that, when trying to file the complaint, she was not allowed to register the statement nor was she given information about the case. Furthermore, she claims to have a video that shows that the driver ran the red light, contrary to the latter's version, who alleged that the responsibility lay with the motorcyclist. Nicole presents fractures in the femur, tibia, and an elbow, as well as head injuries and brain tumors, and remains hospitalized in critical condition at the Darío Contreras Hospital. Meanwhile, the companion who was with her on the motorcycle is stable and has received medical attention for various injuries. The mother called on the authorities to seek justice and that the driver Noel Leomin Mejía Cadena be investigated and held responsible for the accident.
