MP requests 20 years in prison for Adán Cáceres and other defendants in the Coral case

Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry presented its conclusions this Thursday in the trial on the merits of the Coral case, requesting sentences of up to 20 years in prison for the main defendants and a special sentence of five years for the whistleblower Raúl Alejandro Girón Jiménez.

During the hearing, the director of the PEPCA, Mirna Ortiz, asked the court to convict the accused for violation of the Constitution, coalition of officials, malfeasance, embezzlement and money laundering, among other serious crimes.

The prosecution requested 20 years in prison and the payment of 400 minimum wages against Major General Adán Cáceres Silvestre, Juan Carlos Torres Robiou, Rafael Núñez de Aza and Rafael Camilo de los Santos Viola, in addition to the seizure of numerous movable and immovable assets, including properties, vehicles and financial assets, in favor of the Dominican State. Regarding Major of the Raúl Alejandro Girón Army, the prosecution requested a reduced sentence of five years and a fine of 200 minimum wages, in recognition of his effective cooperation and the provision of key information to dismantle the network. Likewise, he requested that the time served under house arrest be computed to consider the sentence served or that the remainder be suspended, under conditions such as residing at a fixed address, not carrying weapons, and reporting periodically to the judge in charge of executing the sentence.
